New York business insurance for active types

A recent article in the New York Times' Sunday Business section notes that in some businesses, “walking meetings” have sprung up as a way of keeping employees active during the business day. While many larger companies have gyms and other fitness equipment on hand, this is not an option for most small business owners. However amusing it sounds, there could be benefits in ensuring that staff members are fit and healthy. You may minimize losses from sick leave and it may even save workers’ compensation claims, eventually helping to reduce your overall New York business insurance costs.

Computer workers are responsible for a surprising number of claims that relate to back, neck and eye problems. It’s very important that all staff have ergonomically correct office furniture and know how to sit properly. Failing to take regular breaks may also increase the likelihood of eye strain and neck and back problems. Accidents do happen, but to minimize workers’ comp claims from your desk staff, it pays to be prepared. Have all work stations checked by an occupational health and safety expert, ensure all staff members are aware that they are allowed a regular, short break, and encourage them to take a walk to stretch their arms and legs.
Standard New York business insurance products do not include workers’ compensation, which is required to be purchased separately. Speak to one of our agents if you have any questions about workers’ compensation coverage or other business insurance products.
